The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a prestigious and internationally recognised qualification aimed towards youth development. Founded by Prince Philip, in 1956, the award is designed to develop skills, leadership abilities, and responsibility through structured and challenging activities. Participants can achieve Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the award which are available to complete with us. With experienced DofE leaders and active participants at our Squadron, DofE becomes not only a fun, but an exciting opportunity for all.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is completed in 4 parts; volunteering, physicals and skills and expedition sections, each designed to grow your skills as an individual, uniquely. Nearing the end of the award, participants complete 2 expeditions; a practice and an assessed one which includes a few days of camping, cooking and hiking. It teaches cadets how to navigate using a map and compass as well as carrying a 70 L backpack filled with essentials for your camp. It’s an experience hard to forget with marvellous views and great humour amongst teammates.

At 1454 Harrow, we enable our cadets to complete their individual skill sections at our squadron and we support them in every step of their way. We teach our cadets map reading skills and group work, we encourage team ethos and we aim to sharpen individual weaknesses during their DofE journey.
